Balkans Forward Foundation was born out of frustration and determination. For years, many in the Balkans have worked hard to push for equality, human rights, and stronger institutions. Yet too often, those efforts are slowed down by rigid systems, empty rhetoric, and a lack of space for people who are most affected to lead the change themselves.

We started BFF because we believe it’s time to shift that dynamic. Real progress won’t come from imported models or high-level strategies that ignore everyday realities. It will come from people on the ground – from LGBT+ youth starting local initiatives, from Roma organizers holding institutions accountable, from young leaders turning frustration into action.

Our foundation connects these individuals with what they often lack: practical education, safe spaces, and access to decision-making processes. We don’t speak on their behalf – we invest in their ability to speak and act for themselves. That is our story: building something that moves forward, with the people who have too long been pushed aside.
