Youth Trained to Counter Hate Speech in Digital Media

A recent UN-supported initiative has empowered youth in the Western Balkans to recognize, respond to, and counter hate speech on digital platforms.

Through workshops, youth learn to deconstruct harmful narratives and use creative media strategies to promote tolerance and inclusion. The program also builds leadership skills, helping young people become proactive voices in their communities.

Participants have already launched online campaigns that reached thousands across the region. This approach reflects BFF’s belief that leadership education and civic space defense must go hand in hand – especially in an era where much of activism and hate alike occurs online.
